This firm has a long history beginning before 1814 when its ancestor was established by Benjamin Crosby. William Simpkin and Richard Marshall were Crosby’s assistants. Upon Crosby’s illness in 1814, Simpkin and Marshall was established. At one point in the mid-nineteenth century the firm of Simpkin, Marshall and Co. was England’s largest book wholesaler. In about 1890-1891 the firm expanded and became Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Company.

Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent and Company published one Jacob Abbott volume.
Historical Tales includes three Abbott biographies:
Mary, Queen of Scots
Charles I, King of England
Louis XIV, King of France

This volume is 8 x 5.5 and has 440 pages. I am uncertain as to the publication date.
